Profile

Christie Group Ltd. was founded in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1954 and began operations with film distribution and ready-to-mix chemistry products. These pioneering efforts and the market successes that were achieved lead to our relationship with the Fujifilm Corporation of Japan for the exclusive distribution of their medical film products in Canada.

Partnership with Fujifilm Corporation
Soon after, Fuji entered into the domain of medical equipment manufacturing and introduced its first film processor to the medical industry in 1975. Then, envisioning the impact that digital technology would have on the medical industry, Fuji proceeded to develop computed radiography (CR) as an imaging modality, and made the first ever market introduction of a CR system in 1981 with the launch of the FCR 101. Fuji continues to have the largest library of clinically validated algorithms for CR, and they continue to hold numerous patents for the instrumentation they engineered. With their entrepreneurial spirit and their commitment to progress and quality, Fuji built upon this foundation and evolved into one of the largest medical equipment manufacturers in the world today.

Partnership with Shimadzu Corporation
The continuing successes of Christie Group resulted in the need for more space, upon which our Head Office and manufacturing facilities were developed in St. Eustache, Quebec, in 1981. Christie then made its first steps towards becoming an imaging company in 1987 when we entered into an exclusive relationship with the Shimadzu Corporation of Japan. This enabled us to expand our product line into the radiographic equipment arena where Shimadzu are renowned for manufacturing dependable, high quality equipment.

Canadian Company
Around this time, Christie also acquired a majority share of Innomed Imaging Ltd. that was based in Edmonton and operated in the Western provinces. In 1993, Christie became the sole proprietor of Innomed and thus transformed itself into a national imaging supply and support company.

Partnership with Lorad Corporation
Christie further expanded its complement of radiographic equipment by again entering into an exclusive distributorship agreement with the Lorad Corporation for their mammography and breast biopsy systems. Hologic Inc. acquired Lorad in 2000 and subsequently chose not only to continue the relationship with Christie, but also added their bone densitometry equipment to our list of products for women's health.

Today, Christie remains the only wholly Canadian owned distributor of medical imaging equipment and systems in Canada. We continue to develop our affiliations and resource base so that we may fulfill our mission of providing quality products and support services to our Canadian customers.
